The World is Heaven or Earth?

The World is Heaven or Earth?

We all know that Earth is our planet. It is green, brown and blue filled with mountains, valleys, rivers and fields. When the sun shines it stands illumined in all its glory and people love to go out and enjoy it.

When we see the beauty of the world we know that it’s good:

  • we tell our friends about it
  • we take pictures of it
  • or sometimes we even buy it.

What is the World?

The world is the planet Earth and all life upon it, including human civilization. Some people say that the world is the entire universe – the sun, moon, planets and galaxies. That’s a big view but definitely worth considering.

Probably the best thing about the world is its beauty. It is made of the five elements: earth, water, fire, air and ether. These five play and intermingle to create the great effects we see and feel.

We see these effects in things like the weather:

  • rain
  • lightning
  • warm bright sunshine
  • clouds
  • breeze
  • fresh air

Although the effects of the five elements are great, the vastness of the world is what really stands out. It is said that there might be other worlds within our world, like celestial, spiritual, transcendent or sacred realms.

We’re always looking to science to tell us more about the big scope our world offers us, and if all these realms are truly part of our world then we could also add heaven.

For many the world would be almost nothing without heaven.

What is Heaven?

heaven

Ever since the beginning of time people have thought about earth and heaven. Cave men, stone merchants, common people and kings have all marveled at the creation and thought about the higher power (heaven.)

In India they talk about the creation in terms of prakriti and purusha: the realm of mortals and the realm of the Gods (divine.)

We think both of these realms exist together and so we experience both heaven and earth. It is well known that when something is super lovely we call it ‘heaven on earth.’

“In the beginning the Creator created the Heavens and the earth.”

Who Made The Creation?

When we wonder where the Creation came from the easiest, most obvious answer is The Creator. He is most well known as God or The Lord.

Most people believe that The Creator lives in heaven. Probably He created it. In terms of purusha and prakriti we think that all of heaven can visit the earth but not all of the earth can visit heaven. This is because heaven is divine but the earth has more ‘gray area’ (unknown.)

This seems true and if it is then it follows that heaven is better than earth (more real.) That’s probably why almost everyone wants to go to heaven (or at least experience it.)

A Description of Heaven

People work hard at making a good life on earth and try for all sorts of pleasures (car, house, family & friends, etc.) What a joy to think that if there is heaven too then it can be even better!

Most people agree that heaven is beautiful and that heaven is not the same as earth.

Monks speak of striving to be “in this world, but not of this world”

Jesus

The main thing to keep in mind about heaven is that The Creator lives there. If we can get to heaven then we have a good chance for a good time.

Most importantly, God will be in heaven and He wants to be your friend. He wants to dwell with you and wipe away all your tears (Revelation 21:1-4).

The thought of heaven brings hope and is encouraging to try for it. We can think of things like:

  • There will be peace
  • There will be an end to pain
  • There will be learning and knowledge
  • There will be all things new (fresh)
  • There will be light
  • There will be love

There will be room to be yourself and share love with the people you meet.

‘In My Father’s house are many mansions’

Jesus

God Put His Throne in Heaven

As we have said in heaven there will be The Creator (God.)

It is by His grace that all this is possible.

By His grace heaven is responsible for the creation. From His throne He governs the cosmos, the all.

“The LORD has established His throne in heaven, and His kingdom rules over all” (Psalm 103:19).

As He governs, things obey and there is law and order. Everybody always wonders how the world stays in balance. With correct governance things just make sense.

The Benefits of Law and Order

When He governs the world (universe) things follow good order and He prevents terrible things like chaos.

Attributes of heaven are:

  • be holy
  • light
  • peace
  • freedom
  • clarity
  • joy
  • togetherness
  • love
  • relationships
  • union
  • one-ness
  • Salvation

So with this many benefits it’s a good choice to choose heaven for our focus. Since it is Divine then heaven is higher, so it’s probably more real (closer to the truth.)

Is Heaven Changing the World?

When we see that there is a heaven and that it can be available to us then it only makes sense to think that heaven is changing the world.

It shines and illumines the world and His grace spreads the love and joy that we feel (which is always available.)

When we see Heaven reflected in the world we should breathe in the glory of Heaven.

Examples of Heaven & Earth

Heaven & earth both exist together, here and now. We can see it in the beauty we behold (a sunrise, sunset, walk by the river or mountain.)

We also see themes of both heaven & earth in things like:

  • ballet
  • farmers pray for good timing for their crops to both heaven & earth

With heaven & earth there are concepts like:

  • law & order
  • society
  • markets
  • houses
  • pastimes
  • friends & family

We can live our lives like it is ‘heaven on earth.’

Between Heaven and Earth

People talk about heaven & earth and sometimes mention being or feeling ‘between heaven & earth.’ This might imply a mixed feeling or uncertainty but really both are available to us now.

As we live our lives we can walk in the world and be with heaven. Heaven lights up the earth and is responsible for all the beauty (which is illumined.)

When we live in line with heaven (heavenly) we can find a good time and true meaning in life. That way the beauty we see and feel can be inside us as well!

When we want Heaven and it might seem difficult then we can pray for Heaven.

Conclusion

So we see that the world is both heaven & earth and that both can live together, hand in hand. Knowing that heaven is there is consoling and by itself is supportive.

The best way to get to heaven is by the old adage ‘trusting & believing.’ One thing that heaven really likes (loves) is faith!

So to wind up in the good place we very much need to determine which one we choose to focus on – Heaven or earth?

We vote for Heaven!
